5. Pre Production: Storyboard planning

Today we started to do our storyboard, we prefered to be professional and use an online storyboard planner. This made it much easier to add in the details of what the video would look like. We got up to scene 3 and we will be carrying on finishing of out storyboard and putting it up onto our blog. We are hoping to start shooting out music video by next week after we finished planning and getting everything sorted such as assuring the artist and the other actors.

5. Pre production Lyrics broken down

We broke down the lyrics and put down what they meant, this would be easier to get a storyline because the lyrics tell the story. We then put down some ideas of the scenes we will be using and where they wil be used. This is an overview of what our music video will be split in and what will be in each scene.

Extra case studies

I really believe that this music video and the song itself has a link to the song we have chosen because it does have a similar beat and tempo to the song we have chosen. The video for this song has a slow tempo, it hasn't got a fast tempo, the video is run slowly showing their love. I really think we could use this type of tempo for our music video.

4. Focus Group/ Pitch : music video: Pitch 2

4. Focus Group/ Pitch: music Video: Pitch

Lesson updates 21/09/2015

Today we had to embed a couple videos such as our practice music video, powerpoint for our final decisions and also the classroom evaluations of the powepoint. Next lesson myself and my partner needs to do some touches on the final decisions and change some ideas and plans.

4. Focus Groups/ Pitch: evaluation: Pitch

For our feedback we got on our powerpoint presentation was that the way we have presented our idea of a slow love song does not match with the type of track we have chosen which is a dub-step type of song and the way we have used a slow type of love song. We have decided to keep the story line the same but change the song to Bryson Tiller 'Been that way,' this song is a music slower type music which we believe that we could add in our ideas that we have used for Blake Lewis's song. We will be doing another powerpoint on the ideas we will be using for this song. In our feedback we have also been asked if we have a dance group that could be willing to be in our video. We have decided that we will have no dance choreography in our music video. For our feedback we have been old that we could have a broken love type relationship to show the tempo and contrast.

1. Creative Ideas and scheduling: practice task music: final video

We had some technical issues with our practice task video due to the fact that the editing was all wrong so we had to just change the editing a little.

3. Treatment: Final decisions: powerpoint- old version

Practice task: NOTE.

We had a problem with exporting our video as there was a fault on the editing of the music video the positioning of the videos were in the wrong place of the music so the video looked a mess. We will try and sort this out and finish the editing properly and get it exported straight away onto our blogs.

3. Treatment: music video final decisions- old version.

For today's lesson we have set out an aim to finish of the planning for todays lessons and today we did finalise what song we will be using which is Blake Lewis- Your Touch which we both believe that it is an available and appropriate song to use. It is a about a love song and how a guy cannot get the girls he loves and we instantly had ideas that we could use for the music video and what the video will include. We are currently making a powerpoint on the ideas we will be using on the video. For our next lesson we will be presenting our powerpoint to the classroom and show everyone our ideas on the video.

Song we have chosen

3. Treatment planning first ideas

We got into our groups. I am working in a pair with Zahra. I feel like it will just stay as myself and Zahra. We both started looking at several songs. Some of the songs we have found were Major Lazer- powerful, Calvin Harris- pray to God, Blake Lewis- your touch, or Chris Brown 12 play. But we found out that Major Lazer's powerful song has a music video to it, and Chris Brown's 12 play song had a few inappropriate language and an inappropriate theme of 'sex.' We have two remaining songs left from Calvin Harris and Blake Lewis. For our next lesson we need to plan on what song we will be using then start to plan how we are going to do the music video and who could be our artist.

2. Research/ Case studies three

Artist: Justin Bieber
producer: Diplo and Skirillex
Title: Where Are Ü Now
Date:

Synopsize of the video:

This song is based on how the artist Justin Bieber is asking for support from the person he has always supported. The main artist sings 'where are you?' throughout the song, the repetition of this shows the desperation the artist pleads to get help from the person he was there for.

If the video is conceptual, narrative or performance based?
It is a conceptional with parts of performance base music video. Even though Jack U which is the DJ is not shown, the main artist Justin Bieber is shown from the beginning of the video till the end.

Themes and Motifs:

The theme of this music video is colourful but it does have a dark side to it as well. This show the emotions, this is also shown through the facial expressions.

Representations of Stars/ artistes include authorize, role of performance and lip Synching

Lip syncing is used in this music video. The main artist Justin Bieber is presented as a male in the dark looking for help and support from someone who he would have wanted it from.

camera angles/ special effects/ mise en scene and editing techniques
It starts of with the camera going into a room full of pictures, it then zooms into one blank black frame, we then get introduced to the artist Justin Bieber with a mid shot in a dark room. We do get a variety of shots. It is kept very simple.

target audience and how they are encouraged to buy the record?
The target audience for this music video would be teenagers between 14-35 depending on the type of genre they like

ideas i could use/ subvert into my music video:
I really like the fact they don't use a lot of camera angles they keep it simple but really effective with the effects.

2. Research/ case studies two

Artist: Ed Sheeran
Producer: Jeff Bhasker and

  • Emile Haynie

  • Title: Photograph
    Date release: 11 May, 2015

    Synopsize of the video:
It is a narrative music video as Ed Sheeran is singing about his past life from a baby to where he is now. The music has videos of the artist Ed Sheeran from when he was a baby to a toddler, growing up and showing his life growing into the music as we could see that he played musical instruments such as piano, guitars, etc...

    Themes and motifs:
The theme of the song is linked very much to the song as it is talking abouts photos and the past. He is showing a good colourful side to how he became an artist by showing what he went though to get to his position he is in right now.

Representations of Stars/ artistes include authorage, role of performance and lip Synching:
Ed Sheeran is presented in a strong, independent young man throughout the whole music video. The song is called photograph it links with the music video as it is a sort of photograph of his entire life in one music video. There is no lip syncing as it is just old videos. The music video is mainly about him but it is talking about his loved ones mainly for his mother.

    Analysis:
This song also was released before mothers day, this itself has a meaning as he is showing his love for his family and how "love" from your family could mend your pain. At one part of the lyrics "loving can hurt" we would automatically think a a partner relationship but if we look at it from the music videos perspective it is singing about the mothers pain to raise a child. Ed Sheeran also says "and I won't ever let you go..." ing he would never leave his love of his parents. This video has a really loving symbol showing his love to his family through showing videos of him growing up to be a big artist.

Camera angles/ special effects/ mise en scene and editing techniques
The camera angles are based on the videos which were taken in the previous video tapes. The video starts of with a long shot of a baby in a bed sleeping. There are shots like long shots to show the mise-en-scene which are a different variety of places such as the house setting, the beach, park, and concert. There are shots which show every moment of the artist Ed Sheeran growing up, to him crawling, walking, and playing piano.

The editing is very clear as you could see the different videos together. There are no lip syncing as the artist is not singing the song in the video. The target audience is for teenagers to around adults as they could link their life story to the artists and have a motivation to do better in their lives. I like the idea that the artist uses old videos of himself, this has a good image to the audience and helps motivates them.

    Target audience:
The target audience for this song would be mainly for teenagers, I believe this because this could give them motivation to do their best to become something good in the future and not to give up on their dreams. This could also be for people who go through tough times and need motivation.

    Ideas I could use:
I like the fact that he uses the past in this music video so it is not just him doing a performance base it is more of a narrative video, so in our music video we could use the past instead of just the present.

Read “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran on Genius

This is the lyrics broken down.

    2. Research/Case studies one

    Artist: Pia Mia
    Producer: Tara Razavi
    Title: Mr President
    Date Release: May 19, 2014

For my first case study I looked at the song 'Mr President' by Pia Mia. Pia Mia is a young 19 year-old female artist. A lot of her songs are based on hip-hop, and RnB which mainly fits with her type of age group.

    Synopsize of the music video:
Her music video for Mr President is mainly performance base but it also has conceptional themes as well. This video is just about the artist Pia Mia singing about a guy that she wants. The music video has some sorts of links with the lyrics. There is a part when she sings 'I need a solider' she and the dancers stands with their right hand on their head to show the stand of a solider.

Camera angles/ special effects/ mis en scene and editing techniques:
The artist is the main subject as she is singing to the audience about her and the guy she can't let go of. In the beginning of the video it starts of with a close up shot of a no signalled television and it zooms out into a mid shot of the artist as we are introduced to her sitting on a couch. It goes into a lot of close shots of the artist and long shots to show where the music video is set which is set in a street wise area with cars and dancers which are shown with long shots.

The mis-en-sense of this music video is different, it starts of in a room which is dark, there are graffiti on the walls behind where the main artist is sitting. It has a couch with broken televisions around it, this does show a urban type of look as Pia Mia is young. Another mis-en-scene is that she is in a street type set, there are cars in the background with other actors, there is also male dancers with the artist dancing whilst she does lip sync. These types of sets does give an view to what the song is trying to give across to the audience which I could guess it is a love song but a very urban way, with dancers and street look.

The editing of this video was kept very straight forward and simple. It just goes straight into the next scene, there are hardly any fading or cross in and out. However, at the beginning of the music video there are a few fades as the beat and tempo at the beginning is quite slow. The fact that they have done this is because the tempo and beat is quite fast so they kept it simple. This song doesn't really have a meaning or symbolic side to it, it is just about her wanting a guy. The video has been made fast for the rhythm and tempo of the beat especially near the end of the song when the beat gets fasted the editing is kept quick and simple.

Representations of stars/ artistes included authorage, role of performance and lip syncing:
Lip syncing was used in this music video as the artist was in the video so she was the main subject and therefore she had to lip sync the song throughout the video. The artist is represented in a young out going and fun person as she is dancing and enjoying herself. However, she wants the man she is singing about. When the artist lip syncs 'doctor, I need a medicine' it is showing suggesting that the man she's talking about is her medicine and that she needs him.

    Themes and motifs:
The theme is kept very lively and exiting. It is a very dancy song and has a tempo beat. The lyrics seems a bit different to the way the artist has put across the music video.

    Target audience:
The target audience for the song is mainly teenagers, Pia Mia as I have stated before is a 19 year-old young female and the song is mainly RnB and hip-hop so it is for people who enjoy to listen to these genres.

    Idea's I could use:
I believe that I could use some ideas from this music video as I am thinking of basing my music genre on a hip-hop type song, some type of dance song. I would like to use dancers like she has used because I thought that this was effective and linked with the genre of the music. I also liked how the artist was the main performer in the music video and there were a lot of shots which showed this. The fact that the tempo and beat was quite fast and it was still a type of love song the music video was kept was quite and simple I believe that this would be a good way to put the video across, it links with the tempo and beat.

    1. Creative Ideas and Scheduling: Practice task day 5

As of todays aim was to finish of the music video by the end of our lesson. So we got straight into the editing and stared adding more videos to the music video. We cut some videos and added different scenes to make our music video look effective. We also added some sort of fading and effect on yhe video to make the video look prossional and appealing as of just having the scences change suddenly. I believed that it took us quite a while to choose what videos should be wear and what kind of effect we should use which took quite a while. We didn't have have to finish it but Tamin which was the artist stayed back to finish the music video of. We are hoping we could finish it by today and get it exported.

    1. Creative Ideas and Scheduling: practice task day 4

For this lesson we started editing our music video to J Cole. We struggled at first to put the videos into the right positions to where Tamin was singing and the song. After we got the hange of it we put in a cople videos on the editing. I believe that we worked as a group to put this music video up and make it good. We got a few help from our teachers which really helped us getting used to how to use the editor. For our next lesson we need to get used to the use of editing and finish of the music video fully so we could export it.

    1. Creative Ideas and Scheduling: practice task: day 3

For today's lesson we done our second shooting for our music video. For our schooting today we done it in the photography studio instead of the filming studio, I think this was a better idea as we used a different location which would make our video look creative however still professional as we still used the studio lightings and a good quality camera. Our artist Tamim had a different clothing code which was also relavant to the genre of music we choose witch was a more street look. I believe we used a variety of different shots which made the video look different instead of just using one or two shot styles. We took a couple shots some exteme close ups, some long shot, mid or low shots. The use of 3 lightings made our video clear and focused. I believe that out effort today was really focused because we wanted to finish shooting today so we could edit next lesson. We are hoping to get our editing started next lesson and add our voiceover of the song onto our video.

    1. Creative Ideas and Scheduling: shooting video for practice task: day 2

Today we done our first shooting for our music video. We was in the studio so we had the professional lighting and environment. As a group we decided to use the two lightings on either side of our artist which created a really effective shadow in the white background which made it look professional. We took 3 videos so far and we have decided that we will be cutting and editing certain parts from each video. Using the DSLR also really helped making the video shooting easier as it was very straight up to use and the quality looks extremely good. I personally believe that our artist done a good job with learning the lyrics and shooting the video in highly standard way. I also believe that my group overall done a great job with keeping up and working as a group. However I think that we needed to be a little bit quicker so we could have finished the full shooting by today. Tomorrow's lesson I am hoping that all my members of my team will attend so we could finish the second half of the shooting.

    1. Creatuve Ideas and Scheduling: practice task planning: day 1

We started to plan on the practice task which we will be doing for couple weeks. We decided to do our own song which is by J Cole called 'can't get enough'. Here are the notes we write on our planning's. We plan to do a variety of  different shots to make our video
look interesting and enjoyable for our audience to watch it instead of having a one shot with a dull artist. For our next lesson we will carry on planning properly and make sure that our artist knows the whole lyrics of the song. For our next lesson I believe that we will be shooting and I believe that my group would do a good job with shooting the video.
